I purchased and installed a Kwikset Powerbolt 1000 for my remodeled home 5 years ago. It stopped working last week.

I did all the usual checks on it and then called the company. The 1st person I spoke with at Kwikset pretty much told me I needed new batteries. Since I had just replaced them (5 minutes prior) we moved on to re-setting the lock. Since this did not work that rep hung up.

So did the next person I spoke with when I called back. Finally I asked to speak with a supervisor who said they would replace the lock but I would have to pay shipping and handling! The cost of S & H would have been the THEIR cost of the lock. Mind you, this is supposed to be a "lifetime" warranty.

After some negotiating, the supervisor said they would ship it "free" just this 1 time. (I hope I don't need it again!) This was on Monday-he said I would have it Thursday. It's Friday and I just found out from Kwikset that it wasn't ordered or shipped and that the supervisor is too busy to talk to me.

Think twice before buying this product! I wish I had.....

same thing happened to me with my SmartKey lever lock.. Broke on me twice I fixed it myself once with replacement parts...

The second time it broke I called Kwikset and they said I will have to pay S&H to get a replacement part.

The customer service rep.

even laughed and made a joke about how their warranty is lifetime meaning you get to pay S&H charges for a lifetime. What a joke!

I had a similar situation. They did not honor the lifetime warranty.
